Well.... not really no. This time of year always sees a modest slow down in the number of valuations we carry out as many of our clients take themselves off to sunnier climes for their annual summer holidays; and, whilst this is true again this year, it certainly is busier than last year which is very good news indeed. Particularly good news given that this August has been our best so far for business sales in the last few years and we'll need plenty of new instructions to replace the businesses we have recently sold.

It does seem though that the media continually talk try to talk down the economy. Well, sorry Mr. Peston but no doom and gloom here!

Many new businesses for sale on the Ernest Wilson Website

The weeks seem to just fly by, a client told me this week that they're now gearing up for the Christmas rush with less than 150 days to go until the big day itself! I have to say that given that we are still in July and we are all still enjoying the summer weather, it all seems very early to me.

Having said that, earlier this week whilst I was valuing a stunning Champagne Bar which is now for sale with us, the subject came up again whilst we were discussing options for completion of a sale. Ernest Wilson at the Great Yorkshire Show


Time is quite simply flying by at the moment and I haven't had much of a chance to keep this blog as upto date as I would like so apologies for that. The flipside of this is that we have had some very busy weeks with some great new businesses coming to the market. The Great Yorkshire Show is upon us and we are at Stand 495 if you would like to come along and see us there. I spoke to Phil Wong at about 10:00a.m. this morning who is representing us today with Martin Humberstone and he tells me that even at that time in the morning the show is busy and a number of people have already been to visit the stand and requested further information. Several I'm informed have also made an appointment to see us again here in the office to discuss their options to buy a business. Great news and lets hope as the day gets even busier we are able to help large numbers of people fulfil their life long ambition of buying their own business and becoming their own boss.

Myself and Stuart Moorhouse will be at the show tomorrow and I look forward to meeting you there.

For something completely different, I took the family to Silverstone over the weekend for the British Grand Prix. It was a great race to watch live. It would have been great to see Jenson Button or Lewis Hamilton win at their home Grand Prix but second for Lewis Hamilton was still a good result and Jenson Button drove superbly to get from 14th on the grid to finish in 4th place. In any event, well done to Mark Webber who is always a popular winner (well certainly within our family) and thank you very much for the personalised, signed, photo that Roger Cleary got you to do for us last year.

Sandwich Bar for Sale

The old saying is very true, it's good to go away, but it's also good to be back. It's certainly very good to be using a full size keyboard!! In fact the holiday already seems like a very distant memory as we have had a couple of very, very, busy weeks here at Ernest Wilson with some truly fabulous new instructions.

For those of you who follow our twitter page (and those that keep an eye on the feed at the right hand side of this page) you will no doubt have already seen some of those as they have come to the market. I have also just placed a really impressive Sandwich Bar on the market for sale with a turnover of £3,500 per week and working on super profit margins. Ernest Wilson Abroad!

Well, sort of... I'm currently away from the office on holiday and didn't get chance to update my blog before I left, so as I sit here using the worlds smallest computer, (well the keyboard certainly feels that way), I thought I'd just send a quick update about the Investment Property I mentioned in my last post. It's now sold! The asking price was achieved and there were several interested parties.

Another busy week at Ernest Wilson....

Another great week here at Ernest Wilson with over 1,000 miles covered by myself and plenty of new instructions.

Watching the investment sector recovering has been particularly interesting and with interest rates set to remain low for the foreseeable future, it's no surpise. I have just put an investment property in Leeds on the market for clients at £150,000 with a rental income of £12,000 this year rising to £15,000 for the next two years which represents a yield of 9.3% over the three year period.

Ernest Wilson Bank Holiday Activity

After another bank holiday weekend, I thought it might be interesting to share some statistics with you from our website. Over the bank holiday, the average number of pages viewed on the Ernest Wilson website was up by almost 26% whilst the time each visitor spent on our website also rose accordingly. Both of which is encouraging news not only for sellers, but also the economy in general as an active market shows that those "Green Shoots" are beginning to flourish.

I've been out of the office almost all of today valuing businesses but understand from colleagues that it's been a super day for viewings and offers received for businesses we are currently marketing for sale.

A day in the Ernest Wilson office.

An interesting day today which has seen me office bound as my car was booked in for a service and it's great to see just how busy the phones are throughout the day here at Ernest Wilson. Some great enquiries from potential Sellers came my way and I will be visiting them in the next few days to value their businesses.

I also met with a new applicant who has had enough of working for someone else after an external candidate was appointed to a job within his existing firm that he has been doing for some time and had applied for. We had a great meeting and made him appointments to view several businesses which are of interest to him.

Sarah certainly picked a busy week to start as the first full week after the Easter break is always an excellent time within the business buying community, particularly for purchasers searching for an exciting and profitable future.
